This organisation is featured in this NGO section as it is craft-based and makes a significant contribution in bettering the lot of at least a group of craftspeople in Kegalle district of Sri Lanka. This is a government-based organisation and comes under the purview of Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board. This was begun in the year 1948 as a centre for training clay-based artisans. The key person to be contacted here is Mr. P. Gunasena who is the Supervisor of this centre. This organisation deals with ancient traditional clay products and organises training schemes for artisans. Along with this centre at Molagoda there are other centres in Samagama, Ambepussa and Aheliyagoda areas of this district. The mission of this centre is to improve the skills of clay-based artisans by organising training-workshops so that they are able to move with the times in terms of design and technique. This will open up new markets for their products which can help improve their standard of living.
